Inspiration
By Marla Fruit
I finally figured out what truly changing habits means. I am a 36 years old and have been yo-yoing with my weight for the last 15 years. I understood about good nutrition, and have been eating fairly healthy and exercising regularly. The weight continued to go up and down though. Last September I got my lab results back from my annual physical and found that my
cholesterol level was up further despite my efforts to bring it down in the last year. I wanted
to get professional advice.
I started the Balance Program and quickly realized that the reason I had bounced up and down in my weight and the same reason why my cholesterol kept rising was because of some eating habits that I didn’t change. I always told myself, this is my only vice. Well my vice was my sweet tooth among other things that has kept me in a constant struggle. Getting help and support to understand how to change habits has made all the difference. Also learning how to enjoy sweet things in my diet without the all or nothing attitude has helped me to make sense of my world and stay on track.
I am happy to report that I am on week 6 of the Balance Program and I am down 2 clothes sizes, and most importantly I have had a 30 point drop in total cholesterol and a 60 point drop in my bad cholesterol. I feel great and can recognize when my bad habits are creeping in. I
also love that I can go at my own pace and always have my information without having to pay extra so I can look back at each program session and my e-counseling sessions with my dietitian whenever I want.
