Lisa Rainer MS RD

 

About Lisa

I am a registered dietitian with more than 5 years of experience in nutrition counseling in areas such as, weight loss, healthy eating, diabetes, heart disease and kidney disease.  My interest in nutrition stems from a lifetime of participating in sports where nutrition knowledge was vital to performance, especially cross county and track.  In my first year of college, I took a nutrition class which motivated me to pursue an education and career in nutrition.

In 2000, I earned a Bachelors degree from California State University, Northridge (CSUN) with a double major in nutrition and food science.  In 2003, I earned a Masters degree in nutrition also from CSUN.  In 2003 I became a Registered Dietitian (RD).

My experience as an RD started in 2003 as a clinical dietitian at a local hospital and quickly branched into several different avenues.  I worked as a renal (kidney) dietitian from 2003 to 2007.  During this time I also started a practice that focused on nutritional counseling with clients diagnosed with heart disease and diabetes.  I also worked part time as a consultant to a senior center where I gave group classes on healthy eating and also did individual nutrition counseling.

Because of my busy lifestyle I understand the necessity for quick and healthy meals.  It helps that my husband works for Trader Joes, where they offer many quick healthy meals and snacks.  My goal is to focus my practice on helping people get back into balance nutritionally.  I feel passionate about a no-diet approach to weight management.  I want to help people reach their weight and wellness goals through a balanced lifestyle that includes whole and fresh foods and limiting processed foods.  I believe that the Balance Program through Real Living Nutrition Services is a program that focuses on these principles and will help people make healthy long term lifestyle changes. 

 

Fun Facts About Me

  • I am an early riser (5:45am) partly because I love early mornings and mostly because my son wakes up at that time every morning like an alarm clock.
  • This May (2007) my family is moving from Southern California to Arizona.
  • My family loves to BBQ, eat good food and drink good wine.
  • In my spare time I like to watch movies.  However, after having the baby I find that I fall asleep when I put him to bed at night from exhaustion so I miss the chance to watch movies.
  • I love being outdoors, going for a walk, hiking and camping.
  • My favorite foods are cheese, yogurt, fruit, fresh bread, wine and tea.
  • My favorite food store is Trader Joes (even before my husband started working there).
  • My favorite music is jazz.
