About Lynn

I grew up in a time when nutrition and eating was simple. The days always started with breakfast, my sister and I walked home from school for lunch until we were in junior high school, and we all ate dinner together. We drank skim milk with meals (my mom was ahead of her time on this one), water in-between, and Kool-Aid for a special treat. Much of our food came from my grandparents’ gardens, and it seemed like we spent most of August canning and freezing food to fill the big chest freezer in the basement. Afternoons and weekends were spent running around outside with the neighbor kids, riding bikes, and playing games.

Now there is so much nutrition and activity information bombarding us from every direction that choosing a healthy lifestyle has suddenly become difficult and confusing. Yet the guidelines remain those simple

basics from our childhood:  enjoy fresh, local foods; eat meals with family and friends, and run around outside as much as possible.

My goal with the Balance program is just that:  to help each of you find the center of healthy balance in your life so that you can achieve your health, fitness, and wellness goals. By simplifying the scientific information about eating and activity, and encouraging each person to choose the options that make the most sense in your individual situation, we can together achieve that balance.

To help you in this journey, I bring a background as a Registered Dietitian, certified diabetes educator, certified personal trainer, and certified Wellness coach. The bulk of my almost 20 years of experience is in working one-on-one with people who are ready to make changes in their eating and activity patterns to reach specific goals. I also have much experience communicating as a freelance writer and online health and nutrition coach, as well as in-person and via the telephone.

Fun Facts About Me

  • I live in southwestern Vermont only 10 minutes from the closest ski area, yet my wintertime activity revolves around showshoeing and outdoor running (at least until it’s so cold my eyelashes freeze!).

  • I have two teenage sons, who have been known to come home after a weekend at a friend’s house and ask for fruit, vegetables, and milk because they’ve been eating too much junk food.

  • I spent 4 years as an active duty Army officer in Military Intelligence before I decided I really wanted a career in wellness, and went back to school to become a Registered Dietitian.

  • Because I live in a rural area, whenever I travel to a city I check out the Whole Foods or Wild Oats stores - I’m like a tourist in those places!

  • My middle sister and I run about one marathon each year together. We live over 1000 miles apart, so it’s a good way to stay in touch and reconnect. This past year our younger sister walked the half-marathon while we ran the full marathon in Nashville, and our parents came to cheer us on!
