About Lisa

Are you ready to improve your health?

You can lose weight and be healthy - I will help!  Together we'll create a plan just for you. Following is a little information about me.

Reason for Nutrition Focus

Unfortunately, I was blessed with crummy genetics. That's right, a strong family history of heart disease and a cholesterol level that has hovered around 200 since my early twenties. These issues "hit too close to home" for me, which is why I am especially interested in heart health and weight loss.  I firmly believe that nutrition and physical activity can be used to correct or delay the on-set of many health issues.

Education

Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center

     Dietetic Internship, 2000

Kansas State University

B.S. Nutrition and Exercise Science, 1999

Experience

I especially enjoyed community nutrition. I worked directly with men and women struggling with weight and elevated blood pressure and cholesterol levels.  I saw how important my support was in keeping them on the right track.  It is one thing to know what you need to do, a whole other ball game when you have to implement the changes.

Fun Facts About Me

  • I live in beautiful places.  My husband is a park ranger and we currently live in Yellowstone National Park.  Before moving here, we were at Mount Rushmore and Badlands National Park.
  • I am up for physical activity.  I try to participate in athletic events regularly (not to beat a time, just to say I did it!).  I have completed a half-marathon (13.2 miles), team triathlon (18 miles bike ride), and most recently a 10K.  Not to mention lots of hiking and skiing.
  • I have two beautiful daughters (that drive me batty at least 50% of the time).  My oldest is 2 1/2 and my youngest 6 months.
  • Books, books, and more books.  I am an avid reader and will read just about anything - fiction, nonfiction, mystery, adventure, romance. . . .
  • I love to travel and see new places. My most recent trips include Hawaii, Washington D.C., and New York City.

Testimonials

Before I spoke with Lisa (Nelson), I felt overwhelmed at the changes I needed to make to be healthy. Lisa gave me the support, encouragement, and knowledge I needed to focus in on small changes. Now I feel like this is something I can really do for myself and my family!

~ Rikki K, Mother, Cedar Rapids, IA

I recently found out my 4 year-old son has anemia. I was shocked and concerned to say the least. Before I spoke to Lisa, I was struggling to get some answers and solutions that would help adjust his anemia.  Lisa gave me insight and direction for the right foods and vitamins. She was kind, caring, and committed to answering my questions.  She gave me thoughtful and experienced advice.  It was comforting to know Lisa cared!

Before starting the Balance Program I was unmotivated.  I lacked

the energy to take care of my body.  Lisa helped me regain my

focus by giving me the tools necessary to make life changes with

my diet and excercise program.  Healthy living is now second nature. Lisa was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Thank you!
~Meg G, Teacher, Livingston, MT

This is great information and exactly what I was looking for.  I appreciate the common sense practical approach you have to nutrition.

~Brian M, Financial Advisor, Olathe, KS

If it weren't for your breastfeeding advice and support, I know I would've given up on nursing after just a few weeks of trying...You have helped me several times over the years and I truly appreciate it!

Julie W, Teacher, Salina, KS
